Folks in Manassas out to quickly pick up a few groceries during the current COVID-19 pandemic might have wondered what was up this week if they happened by our storefront Migration and Refugee Services program and saw the stuffed multi-colored bags lined up in front of the office.
It was our MRS office’s second diaper delivery day.
Seven volunteers and one staffer were preparing to deliver diapers to refugee families with little ones. The safe diaper drop-off was just one of the most basic ways we’re serving refugees who find themselves affected by the public health crisis, which has affected not just people’s health but also their ability to work and provide for their families.
Lourdes Sandoval, MRS Refugee Health Education & Outreach Liaison/Case Manager, tallied up the results of their two-day task:
- 93 babies
- in 63 families
- received a total of 4,650 diapers
- distributed to 12 cities within the Diocese of Arlington
- Falls Church
Even in these most extraordinary times, Catholic Charities is continuing to serve those in need. Learn more about our MRS program here.
