Did you know that food pantries struggle the most during the summer? The abundance of Fall and Christmas donations have run out and children are not receiving free and reduced lunches from school.

The St. Lucy Project is sponsoring a Special Summer Food Collection for Children. Please consider involving your parish so we can work together to serve the hungry in our communities.

Therefore, we need your help! We have an urgent need for food right now. The demand is high and the donations are low.

Please consider supporting The St. Lucy Project today. We have walk-in pantries in Alexandria, Front Royal and Leesburg and a distribution hub in Manassas. We also support 21 parish pantries and 38 ecumenical partner pantries.

We can accept both food and monetary gifts to sustain this urgent need. Additionally, we can help you set up a special food drive within your parish, ministry group, business or neighborhood.

In fact, a few parishes have already jumped in to help and will be holding food drives at upcoming weekend masses. If you’re going to be in or near Alexandria, stop by St. Mary’s on June 20 or 21 and Blessed Sacrament on June 27 or 28. Our St. Lucy truck will be there and volunteers will be collecting food.

We have a special need for the following items: Canned meats (stew, chicken, tuna), soups, vegetables and fruit, peanut butter and jelly, macaroni & cheese, cereal, children’s snacks such as pudding and fruit cups, pasta and pasta sauce.

Please contact Vince Cannava, at 703-479-2975, ext. 103 or VCannava@ccda.net, to set up a food drive, make a donation or receive additional information.
